Bis einer heult.

Finally here's some documentation for my most recent art endeavour. I have a piece in this show 'Batman Elektronik' in Berlin right now. After not having had anything sculptural out for more than a year, this feels a bit like a comeback thing.

Bis einer heult

I'm not sure how and when I got inspired to build something out of inflatable weapons, but once I had them, I instantly felt the old love of materials and working with space again.

Inflatable Weapons

Also, my housemates were delighted when the first batch arrived:

I was surprised by how easy it actually was to glue those things together, but I didn't expect them to be made that badly. Over the course of building the sculpture, more or less every time I inflated it, I had to discover another seam that had cracked. A main offender was the gun I found this bizarre review for:

Instead of being 'pretty cool' as the lady here keeps insisting, this peace of shit had its seams ripping apart in different places at least 6-7 times, and of course it wasn't the only one doing that. Which meant that the sculpture most of the time deflated within minutes after being pumped up regardless of how many patches I'd already put on.

I thought of finding some automated solution for inflating it, but after some fruitless efforts of trying to find a strong enough electric pump, I decided to just do it by hand around every half hour during the private view. So if you happen to be in Berlin some time between now and the 19th of January, you're either gonna have to ask the gallery staff to inflate it for you or even better, do it yourself, to see it in all its glory...

Warstware official

I decided to make the Warstware site, documenting my endeavours in circuit bending and machine hackery, official. It's still far from complete and quite messy because I'm slowly getting out of hibernation and projects are piling up, but in my opinion, it's too nice to keep informal for very much longer. Comments and productive criticism are appreciated.

Here we go:

Video Hackspace

meta-creation_date: 10/2/2013 07:16:15 Fabrizio D'Amico from Video Hackspace came over. We talked about doing a visual circuit bending workshop soon. It was very pleasant.

I borrowed a projector and he filmed some of my pictures with his telephone. Then he uploaded them to Youtube. Here they are:

Also, I had a very nice/strange night. More things soon.

Videophone new step!

Yesterday, I built in the internal screen.
Pretty machine.
I'm working on this like crazy again. Also, a few days ago, I finished general bending on a Zoom 506 II bass pedal. Needs a bit more polishing and some solution for a nice controllable internal feedback.
But already: O.M.F.G!!!

A lot more soon to come.

Fuck Yeah!

Talk at Music Hackspace

Yep, this time, I actually managed to both bring my Flip camera and ask someone to film for me. I should do this more often.

Videophone growing

I finally managed to upload some stuff I recorded with the Videophone (which now also has it's final name, yay). I'm still building on it like crazy, so there's lots more to come.

Here's also a picture of its last stage (it already looks different again, but I am way slower with documenting than I am with building.

Videophone

I am currently building the screen to the left inside the housing.

Here's two recordings I've made. More to come, soon.

Night shift revisited

It's been close to a year now since I had the Night Shift show at Simon Oldfield Gallery. Yesterday, I was surprised in a very very nice way by Rebecca Helen Page, who has filmed bits of the performance I've done there and uploaded them to Vimeo.

It was quite a noisy performance with very weird sound and I had very short hair at that time.

The desk I had my instruments on was absolutely gorgeous. It felt like my own private TARDIS.

Thanks a lot Rebecca.
