Videophone new step!

Yesterday, I built in the internal screen.
Pretty machine.
I'm working on this like crazy again. Also, a few days ago, I finished general bending on a Zoom 506 II bass pedal. Needs a bit more polishing and some solution for a nice controllable internal feedback.
But already: O.M.F.G!!!

A lot more soon to come.

Fuck Yeah!

Videophone growing

I finally managed to upload some stuff I recorded with the Videophone (which now also has it's final name, yay). I'm still building on it like crazy, so there's lots more to come.

Here's also a picture of its last stage (it already looks different again, but I am way slower with documenting than I am with building.

Videophone

I am currently building the screen to the left inside the housing.

Here's two recordings I've made. More to come, soon.

Night shift revisited

It's been close to a year now since I had the Night Shift show at Simon Oldfield Gallery. Yesterday, I was surprised in a very very nice way by Rebecca Helen Page, who has filmed bits of the performance I've done there and uploaded them to Vimeo.

It was quite a noisy performance with very weird sound and I had very short hair at that time.

The desk I had my instruments on was absolutely gorgeous. It felt like my own private TARDIS.

Thanks a lot Rebecca.

Video Glitch Thing

There's something awesome growing and it's high time I posted it here:

So yeah... these are the first tests with the new video glitch thing I'm building. No better name yet, but oooh it's gonna look sexy!

It's based on Gijs Gieskes brilliant GVP1 Video effects processor

As usually, I'm going way over the top with the circuit bending. And then there will also be the whole VGA part of it which I haven't even messed with, yet.

Exciting.

soon more.

Katy Kirbach & Simon Schäfer

SimonOldfield

Private View
7 September 2011, 18.30 — 20.30

Exhibition continues to
28 September 2011

Night Shift explores the relationship between painting, sculpture and performance with new work by Simon Schäfer and Katy Kirbach.

The exhibition examines the tension between the handmade and ready-made; multiplicity and uniqueness; live event and still object; the diurnal and nocturnal.  Night Shift is visually and aurally layered with texture, sound, digital feeds, colour and analogue electronics.

Give me a nice little twirl...

Downloaded a plugin to make gifsicle work with Gimp. You can find it here. If you ever were annoyed with the overall quality of your gifs, YOU WILL BE AMAZED. Only for Linux, though. But you might as well consider getting a proper operating system, too. Eat your heart out, Photoshop.

New work for an upcoming show is on its way.

Here's a small Vorgeschmack for both:

Back to Nijmegen on 19th of July

Still feeling kind of deflated from taking down the show (and all of last weeks antics), I have to start taking care about future endeavours. There's a few more applications to be written and I seriously despise Artist statements, so this is gonna be .

But there's a few pleasant things coming up as well:

First of all, on 19.07.2011 der Warst will gloriously return to Nijmegen, where he's gonna play at the de-affaire festival

Also, now that I suddenly have way more time on my hands than I can handle, I really need to think about doing that DVD for Hand baked records.

I'll probably make some quick'n'dirty CD for Nijmegen, too.

Oh, and a lot of my gear seriously needs to go to the maintenance bay...

Keine Atempause, Geschichte wird gemacht.

Hamburg...

Well...

Playing to an audience of 5 (spread over the whole night).

We were quite good and the barman and the owner of the place really liked it.

Again, we got paid with beer and this time, we drank enough. Ernst Markus even a bit more than enough.

Apart from the gig, we were around a lovely bunch of people who made us feel very welcome. A very special Dankeschön goes to Monika and Ken. Next time I come to Hamburg, I'll call them directly.
